Silvio is a geologist and earned his Ph.D. in Geography from the Sao Paulo University (USP), Brazil. In 2001/2002 and 2010, he came to Harvard as visiting scholar at SEAS and CGA working on spatial and temporal analysis of water resources systems. He returned to CGA briefly in February 2016 as an associate professor at the Environmental Department, Institute of Science and Technology (ICT), UNESP, São José dos Campos, Brazil and member of the Graduate Program in Energy at the UNESP. His research interests include the assessment and monitoring of natural disasters (landslide, flood, and erosion), relationship between climate change and water resources, and application of geo-technologies (GIS, geostatistics and remote sensing) to geosciences, water resources and environmental issues. He is also interested in the interaction of temporal and spatial data and interactions between GIS, 3D models and virtual reality.
