Scanning Equipment

Large-format scanning

For materials held within the Harvard Map Collection, scanning services can be requested using their ColorTrac 42 inch color scanner, operated by the Map Collection staff.

For historic, fragile, or valuable items please consult with the Widener Imaging Serives.

Note, the large format Vidar Altas P42 color scanner, formerly maintained by CGA has been retired from service.

Page-size scanning

For image sizes up to 11 x 14 inches, flat bed scanners in the HMDC Concourse Computer Lab are available to Harvard affiliates with an active HMDC account.   Similar equipment is available for all Harvard users at the Lamont Library Media Lab.

Book page scanning

For bound materials that are not flat sheets, (including large folio-size atlases), it is best to use the Widener library imaging service.  They use a mounted camera rather than a sheet-fed scanner.
