Please join us for a talk by [Andrea Nasuto](https://www.linkedin.com/in/andreanasuto/), PhD candidate in Geographic Data Science at the University of Liverpool, and visiting PhD student at CGA and IQSS at Harvard.

**Abstract**: My research maps public attitudes toward immigration and physical migration patterns, by analyzing digital traces on social media. Using large language models, geospatial analysis, and network science, I measure how people perceive migration and track how they physically move across landscapes—revealing how digital public opinion and real-world mobility shape our society. I’ll present findings on the role of influencers, content speed, polarization, and bots in shaping the online debate on immigration. I’ll also explore how digital traces provide insights into migration during crises, including collaborative projects with the UN that use Facebook data to track COVID-19 mobility shifts in Latin America, and GPS smartphone data to examine displacement and the impact of war events in Ukraine.

**Speaker Bio:** Andrea Nasuto is a PhD candidate in Geographic Data Science at the University of Liverpool. He has collaborated with UN agencies addressing migration and displacement during the Ukrainian conflict and COVID-19 related mobility changes in Latin America. He has also worked on projects estimating loneliness and urban mobility among older adults in the UK, and on projects to model climate change impacts on coastal housing markets.

Lunch will be served to those in attendance.
