Connie Chen is a preceptor in geospatial analysis at Harvard University's Government Department and an associate with the Center for Geographic Analysis (CGA). She holds a Ph.D. in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Florida, an MS in Geography (Urban and Regional Planning) from Peking University, and a Bachelor's degree in Landscape Gardening from Beijing Forestry University. She teaches introductory and advanced GIS courses as well as GIS training programs. She is proficient in spatial and statistical analysis through GIS and R programming language, 3D geospatial modeling and visualization through ArcGIS Pro and CityEngine, and data mining techniques. She also obtained training in qualitative methods and urban and landscape design skills. She identifies herself as a social-technological scholar. Dr. Chen has participated in both research and practice environmental projects in the U.S. and China. Her research areas include travel behavior, social vulnerability, community resilience, the built environment, and urban and landscape design. Her current research focuses on integrated vulnerability analysis, combining insights from natural, built, and social environments, along with people’s activity-based resilience to hazards, disturbances, and urban design integrated with Virtual Reality technologies.
