Abstract: Shanhaijing (山海经) was originally a book with both illustrations and text. However, its original ancient illustrations have been lost for at least two thousand years. The speaker will discuss his examination of historical research into the records of Shanhaijing’s ancient illustrations (i.e. the Jiudingtu 九鼎图), his understanding and interpretation of the Jiudingtu through the eyes of the ancient people, and his discoveries from the Jiudingtu. The speaker believes that the Jiudingtu he restored is the legendary Shanhaijing’s ancient world map.

The Speaker: Steven Lu (芦鸣) is a book author and an independent researcher on the Classic of Mountains and Seas (Shanhaijing). In his second book "The Truth about the Classic Shanhaijing" (上帝的影子——山海经的真相), Steven Lu explains how to discover the map in Shanhaijing. His third book "Search the Mystery of Shanhaijing" (山海经探秘), published in China in 2014, illustrated the possible locations of every mountain and every country mentioned in Shanhaijing on today’s world map. Steven Lu became the first person to do so in history. He argues that the map in the classic Shanhaijing could be the first world map in human history.
