Abstract: WorldMap started in 2008 to enable researchers to more easily visualize, create, and share spatial data.  At the time we were inspired by Google Maps and  Google Earth which at the time were revolutionizing online mapping.  Our goal was to put this new cartographic beauty, speed, and fluidity, into the hands of any researcher, to enable them to publish their own content this way.  We were very idealistic.  At the time there were no appropriate off-the-shelf platforms, so we built our own from open source components.  The system became popular, grew quickly, and served us well for many years.  Eventually commercial systems caught up, and the burden of maintaining a growing system only increased. Last year we reached out to Esri and they agreed to partner with us.  This is the story of our migration to ArcGISOnline.      https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1l6dYSeLFqrjcIsur9FBi4ZCrkDnn06hJ...
